Exploring Opportunities in Rubber Downstream Processing: A Meeting between Local Government Agencies and Custom Rubber Specialist Company

In a bid to enhance the local economy and create employment opportunities for Kabupaten Kuansing, a significant meeting took place recently in Bandung in October 4th 2023. The gathering brought together the Dinas Perkebunan dan Peternakan, Dinas Koperasi UKM, Perdagangan dan Industri , the local government agencies responsible for industry and development, respectively, and PT CDM (Custom Rubber Specialist Company), a leading rubber processing national company in Bandung – Indonesia since 2004. The agenda of the meeting centered around discussing plans for a training program focused on downstream processing of rubber sheets into finished products. The aim of this training program was to promote local economic growth through rubber product diversification and to generate employment opportunities.

The Kabupaten Kuansing region is known for its robust rubber industry, with numerous local farmers engaged in rubber cultivation. However, most of the rubber produced in the region is in the form of raw sheets, limiting the value it can generate for the local economy. Recognizing this untapped potential, Dinas Perkebunan dan Peternakan, Dinas Koperasi UKM, Perdagangan dan Industri collaborated with PT CDM to explore opportunities in downstream processing, aiming to transform rubber sheets into finished products.

During the meeting, representatives from Dinas Perkebunan dan Peternakan, Dinas Koperasi UKM, Perdagangan  dan Industĺri , and PT CDM engaged in fruitful discussions regarding the implementation of a training program. The program aimed to equip local participants, primarily consisting of representatives from farmers’ groups, with the necessary skills and knowledge in rubber downstream processing.

Team of Kuansing Govenment observed the various stages of the production process, 0starting from the preparation of raw materials to the final production stage. The facilities and equipment used by PT. CDM were impressive, showcasing their expertise in custom rubber manufacturing. The head of the agency was particularly impressed by the efficiency and professionalism demonstrated by the company throughout the production process. This visit highlighted the company’s commitment to delivering high-quality rubber products and their contribution to the local economy by creating employment opportunities in the rubber industry.

Benefits and Objectives:

The main objectives of the training program were twofold. Firstly, it aimed to enhance the local economy by adding value to the rubber produced in the region. By imparting expertise in rubber sheet processing, the training program would enable the production of a diverse range of finished rubber products. This diversification would attract more buyers and increase the overall revenue generated by the local rubber industry.

Secondly, the training program sought to create employment opportunities within the region. By providing training to local participants, the program aimed to empower them with the necessary skills to establish small-scale rubber-based businesses. These businesses would not only meet the demand for rubber products in the region but would also create jobs, thereby improving the livelihoods of the local community.

The meeting between Dinas Perkebunan dan Peternakan, Dinas Koperasi UKM, Perdagangan dan Industri, and PT CDM marks a significant step in the exploration of opportunities in rubber downstream processing in Kabupaten Kuansing.
